When are dental implants required?

The Treatment In Brief

• The procedure is usually done with the help of local anesthesia and the first step is to attach the implant in the jawbone of the patient. Once attached, the implant is allowed about three to six months to heal completely, time during which osteointegration takes place.
• The next step involves attaching tiny metal cylinders to the implant in such a way that it will project outside the gums. The healing process here would take another one to two months.
• Lastly, the new tooth or teeth would be tightly attached to the protruding tiny metal cylinders. This is the least cumbersome step of the process, though it might be required to undergo a number of fitting sessions before it becomes perfect. However, once it is attached, it would become a permanent fixture for life.
